Celtic have "some more" players to recruit, says manager Brendan Rodgers as the new season nears.

New striker Shin Yamada was introduced to the support before the Scottish champions beat Newcastle United 4-0 in Saturday's friendly.

The Japan international, 25, is one of three attacking players signed by Rodgers so far this summer, with winger Benjamin Nygren and striker Callum Osmand also coming in while Hayato Inamura and Kieran Tierney have bolstered the defence.

"We've got a lot more to come, we've got some more to bring in also," Rodgers told club media.

"We need to and we want to get some more from the squad, some more players to come in and support the guys that are already here."

Inamura started against Newcastle and Nygren and Tierney came on as a second-half substitutes.

Rodgers described Celtic's performance as "very impressive", with Arne Engels scoring a penalty and Johnny Kenny netting before half-time. Yang Hyun-jun scored the hosts' third and Tierney set up fellow sub Liam Scales for the fourth.

Celtic face Ajax in Italy on Thursday and will then face either tournament hosts Como or Al-Ahli on 26 or 27 July before starting their Premiership defence at home to Kilmarnock on 3 August.
