Boss Alan Sheehan says Adam Idah has a point to prove at Swansea City after returning to the Championship from Celtic.

Idah established himself with Norwich City - where he played in the second tier and Premier League - before joining Celtic for a £9m fee 13 months ago following a successful loan spell in Glasgow.

The 24-year-old striker scored 20 Celtic goals last season but, having struggled to hold down a regular starting spot at times, was allowed to join Swansea in a deal worth an initial £6m.

Idah has described the transfer as a "fresh start" - and Sheehan says the forward is hungry to show his quality in a Swansea shirt.

"I think that was one of the things that he said - he wants to prove it," said the Swansea head coach.

"That's good. We don't want people that want to talk about doing stuff, we want people that are going to do it."

Swansea spent the whole summer window looking for a new centre-forward, with the likes of Oli McBurnie, Kevin Carlos, Richard Kone, Willem Geubbels and Jusef Erabi among a host of names they considered.

They eventually landed Idah on deadline day, with the Cork-born player becoming Swansea's most expensive signing outside the Premier League.

"I think everybody knew that we wanted to strengthen our nine competition," Sheehan added.

"So to bring in somebody of his calibre, his physicality, his athleticism, his mentality to come here - we were delighted with that.

"He's a player that I know a lot about, my coaching staff know a lot about, so when the opportunity came to have conversations it was a no-brainer really and credit to the ownership that fully backed that."

Idah could make his Swansea debut against Hull City on Saturday (15:00 BST), having trained with his new team-mates for the first time on Thursday after being away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

Vipotnik 'showing what he's capable of'

Sheehan says he could "feel that reaction" among Swansea's squad as Idah impressed during his first session.

Yet there is no guarantee that Idah will walk straight into the starting side given the form of Zan Vipotnik.

The Slovenian scored three goals in as many games before the international break – and also netted for his country against Sweden last week – and remains in Wales despite speculation that he could be sold before the transfer window closed.

"I'm delighted he's still here," Sheehan said.

"He's had a great week and now he's showing what he's capable of. He's added that grit and that aggression that's not been consistently there.

"We want players here that have a point to prove, who want to hold on to the shirt, they want to play for the shirt and take us up a level."
