Celtic striker Johnny Kenny has replaced the injured Troy Parrott in the Republic of Ireland squad for their World Cup qualifiers against Hungary and Armenia.

AZ Alkmaar forward Parrott, who has made a strong start to the season with 10 goals in seven games, suffered an unspecified injury in training with his club last week which has ruled him out of this international window.

Kenny, 22, has received his first call-up to the senior squad after featuring at under-21 level.

He was left out of the Celtic squad for their 0-0 draw with Rangers on Sunday but signed a new contract at the club last month after two productive loan spells with Shamrock Rovers.

All other players named in the original squad have reported for camp as coach Heimir Hallgrimsson's side prepare to face Hungary at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, 6 September.

They will then travel to Armenia for their first away game of the campaign on Tuesday, 9 September.
