CJ Egan-Riley was part of a Burnley defence which conceded just 16 goals in 46 league games last season
England Under-21 defender CJ Egan-Riley has joined Marseille on a free transfer after rejecting a new contract at Burnley.
The 22-year-old was named in the Championship team of the season after helping the Clarets break defensive records as they won promotion to the Premier League.
Burnley last week said they had offered the former Manchester City player a "significant long-term contract" but that he had "made the decision to pursue an opportunity in France".
Egan-Riley is on duty with England at the European Under-21 Championship and will join up his new club after the tournament.
Marseille are managed by ex-Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi and will be playing Champions League football next season after finishing second in Ligue 1, behind Paris St-Germain.
On Wednesday they agreed to sign England midfielder Angel Gomes, who had spent five years with fellow French side Lille.
Egan-Riley joined Burnley from Manchester City in 2022 and had loan spells at Hibernian and PSV Eindhoven before establishing himself at Turf Moor.
